Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#2 Women's Lacrosse Stopped by Stonehill in OT Thriller, 14-13

North Easton, Mass. - In a game that saw extra time on the board, the no. 2 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team got handed their first loss of the season against no. 14 Stonehill College on Saturday, by a final score 14-13.

Adelphi's (13-1, 10-1) leading scorer was Izzy Grant who finished the contest with three goals. Emily Beier led the team in points with seven, courtesy of two goals and five assists and three other Panthers finished with two goals each.

The Skyhawks came out of the gates hot, scoring the first four goals in the game until Kerrin Heuser answered with her own tally for her 32nd goal of the season. That sparked a three goal spurt that only saw the visiting team down by one after 15 minutes of action.

The second quarter started with a Christina McCabe goal to even the score four-all. The visitors managed to find ways past goalkeeper Sarah Faley four more times to outscore the Hawks 5-2 heading into the intermission to maintain a two-goal advantage. A strong defensive effort from the Panthers is what helped them get back into the game, forcing five turnovers to keep the Skyhawks offense at bay. Kailey Broderick finished the contest with a team-high four caused turnovers as Kristina Kallansrude also chipped in three.

After halftime, a free position shot from Beier stretched out the lead but back-to-back goals from Kayla Conway brought the home team within one. Conway added all three tallies that Stonehill scored in the third quarter finding themselves still outscored by one. The home team trailed by three heading into the final quarter of regulation.

After a commanding two quarters, Adelphi ran out of gas, allowing Stonehill to score four goals in the fourth. Conway tallied two more points for her home team as the Hawks took the lead 13-12 with less than two minutes left in the fourth frame. Gianna Bifulco capitalized on a free position attempt with two seconds left in the game to send the contest into the Panthers' first overtime of the year.

Adelphi and Stonehill were stalemated at 13-all at the end of the fourth.

Two caused turnovers from the visitors was not enough to take the lead in this game. Molly Mae Hughes won the game for theSkyhawks on a free position attempt, after a Broderick foul following the overtime switch in sides.

Pat McCabe and his team look to finish out the season with a two game homestand, starting with a game against Franklin Pierce on Apr. 27. The team will be promoting Autism Awareness and the Bridges to Adelphi Program with 'Light It Up Blue' t-shirts for sale at the game.
