Flushing, N.Y. - As it remains in contention for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, the Adelphi University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Queens College at the QC Tennis Bubble on Thursday in Flushing.
With the NCAA's first regional rankings being released Wednesday, the Panthers (10-7) found themselves at No. 8 in the East Region.
In pairs play,
Barbie Quagliardi and
Caterina Federici kept the doubles point in limbo with a 6-4 win at the top flight.
It came down to No, 2 doubles, where
Amanda Franstedt and
Louisa Junghanns fell short against Queens' Nathalie Ulander and Lilly Schmidt, 6-3.
Quagliardi later met Ulander in second singles and kept her strong play going this spring with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set victory.
Junghanns took down Makal, the 2021-22 ECC Player of the Year, in three sets at No. 1 singles by a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 scoreline.
Adelphi will round out its spring schedule tomorrow (Apr. 22), with a 10 a.m. first serve at Dominican College in Orangeburg.
