Manchester, NH - With a commanding edge in overall shots and caused turnovers, the no. 3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team maintained its unblemished record with a 12-8 decision at no. 20 Saint Anselm on Saturday.
The Panthers (8-0, 5-0 NE10) were led by
Izzy Grant who scored four goals on five shots, including one free position attempt.
Emily Beier and
Christina McCabe also recorded multi-goal games, combining for seven points.
Grant and McCabe notched the first two goals of the contest after six minutes of action in the first quarter, but the Hawks managed to respond with a tally less than 50 seconds later to cut the deficit to one. Grant extended the lead and finished with a hat trick through the opening frame, helping Adelphi hold a 5-3 lead going into the second.
The Panthers kicked off the next period with four unanswered goals, two from the stick of Beier and the others courtesy of
Jamie Mecca and
Kerrin Heuser. The home team managed to sneak in one goal before halftime, but still trailed by five at the break.
Adelphi won six draw controls in the third frame, keeping their opponents at zero in the stat, however the Hawks flipped the script to hold a 4-1 advantage in scoring at the end of the quarter.
With a two-goal edge, the Panthers tacked on two more in the fourth, holding the hosts scoreless to secure the 12-8 win and stand as the only NE10 team without a loss in conference play.
Saint Anselm's Grace Young collected 14 saves between the pipes, compared to
Emma Lemanski's three.
Kristina Kallansrude, Heuser and Grant each were responsible for four draw control wins each in the victory.
With a quick turnaround,
Pat McCabe and the women's lacrosse squad are back to their home field on Tuesday, Apr. 5, for an NE10 matchup featuring Southern Connecticut State University. Opening draw is set for 5:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
