Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 4 Men’s Lax Win Streak Snapped at Home by Mercy

Garden City, NY-  The no.4 Adelphi men's lacrosse team came up short against the no. 5 Mercy Mavericks on Tuesday, by a final score of 10-6.

Kyle Steinbach led the Panthers in scoring with three goals. Mercy's TJ Heyder matched that with his own hat-trick as three other Panthers finished with a goal each.

The hosts out-shot Mercy 10-9 in the first quarter, but the visiting team converted on their own shots, scoring twice to Adelphi's solo tally. Steinbach scored the only goal putting Adelphi on the board first, as the Mavericks scored two unanswered to give themselves a 2-1 lead at the end of the frame.

Mercy dominated the second quarter, putting up nine shots on goal, finding a way past Dylan Renner on five of them. Heyder and Sean Makar scored a goal each under the final minute mark to extend the visitors lead to 7-1 heading into halftime. The visiting defense limited Adelphi to only two shots on goal and goalkeeper Tommy Umano finished the quarter with two saves.

The third quarter started off with an Angelo Caiazzo goal to cut the Mavericks lead to five. Heyder answered less than a minute later with a goal of his own to stretch the lead out yet again. Both teams traded goals one more time for the rest of the quarter ending with two goals each with the Mavs having the upper hand, 9-3, going into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Renner finished the quarter with three saves.

Adelphi put up a resilient fight in the final quarter, outscoring the visitors 3-1. Despite Mercy having five penalties in the quarter, Adelphi's scoreless second quarter came back to haunt them in the final five minutes as they finished the game four goals behind the Mavs.

The Panthers drop to 11-1 on the season and look to notch a game in the win column on Apr. 23 at Bentley as they hit the road for their final two regular season games.
