Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team celebrated the seniors by adding two tallies to the win column after a Northeast-10 Conference sweep on Janet L. Ficke Field Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: Adelphi 6, Saint Michael's 0
Faith Camilleri walked with the bases loaded in the first inning to score the first run of the game.
Sophia Cicchetti followed Camilleri with an outfield single to score
Jaden Farhat who singled three batters earlier.
Cicchetti doubled to left center in the fourth and scored during the next at bat when
Kendall Winn drilled a double to the left field fence to help the home team to a 4-0 lead through the fourth inning.
The Panthers took advantage of the Purple Knights' defensive mistakes - accounting for two more runs in the fifth, extending the lead to 6-0.
Claire Fon went to work inside the circle, earning her 13th win of the season on a seven-inning complete game shutout. She struck out nine batters and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, making two plays on the rubber.
Game 2: Adelphi 6, Saint Michael's 0
Adelphi had eight hits in Game 2, six of which were good for two bases.
Ashley Lombardi poked a sacrifice fly to left field with the bases loaded that scored
Faith Camilleri for a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Adelphi once again capitalized on fielding errors by Saint Michael's and sent four across safely in the third inning, all of which were unearned runs.
Courtney Wengryn doubled one inning later to score
Angela Lignelli for a 6-0 lead that was enough to win the game.
Lindsey Hibbs picked up where
Claire Fon left off, striking out the first seven batters of the game for a total of 13 on the game - the second most she has thrown in a single came in her career to date.
The Panthers will return to the field on Monday at American International College for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader to make up the games that were rained out last weekend.
