Softball Shuts Out AIC in NE10 Action; 6-0, 1-0

Springfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University softball team secured two more road wins in Northeast-10 Conference play on Monday afternoon at American International College, 6-0 and 1-0.

Game 1: Adelphi 5, AIC 0
Adelphi (28-10, 15-3 NE10) had 11 hits from nine different players, Sophia Cicchetti and Faith Camilleri both had two hits apiece.

Camilleri had her first of two hits off a solo shot to right field in the second inning to put the Panthers (28-10, 15-3 NE10 ) up early. Courtney Wengryn followed the act with a third inning lead-off homer to center for a 2-0 lead.

Brianna Pearson helped extend the lead in the fourth with a RBI single back to the pitcher that scored Courtney Murphy who replaced Camilleri on the base path.

Pearson had another RBI in the sixth to send Sophia Cicchetti home. Adelphi sealed the deal in the seventh with a RBI single off the bat of Alexa Sacripante that stretched the lead to 5-0.

The Yellow Jackets (3-25, 1-13) left seven runners stranded, four of which were in scoring position. The hosts had an opportunity to score in the second and again in the sixth, but Claire Fon battled to keep the team off the board.

Fon tossed a shutout win and retired 11 batters in the act. She allowed just four hits, and walked to en route to advancing to 14-3 on the season.

Game 2: Adelphi 1, AIC 0
The Panthers had just five hits in Game 2 after an 11 hit performance in Game 1.

The first hit of the game for either team came in the bottom of the second when Alexa Sacripante drilled a double down the right field line. She advanced to third on Faith Camilleri's groundout, ands scored two batters later on Lauren O'Neill's left field single.

Sacripante was Adelphi's top offensive contributor in Game 2, accounting for three of the team's five hits during her perfect performance at the plate.

Lindsey Hibbs put the pressure on the Yellow Jackets' offense in the night cap. She struck out 14 of 23 batters faced, and allowed just one hit and one walk during her shutout performance.

The Brown and Gold will return to Garden City to host Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon in doubleheader action. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m..
