Garden City, NY - The #3 women's lacrosse team used a big second half effort to break a halftime tie and come away with an 11-5 victory over league rivals, and #10 ranked Le Moyne. The win marks the first time the Brown and Gold (12-0, 9-0 NE10) beat the Dolphins at home since February of 2018.
The Panthers were powered by four players with multi-point games and led by
Christina McCabe's five-point effort that included two goals and three assists.
Kerrin Heuser led all scorers with three goals to compliment her one assist while
Emily Beier and
Gianna Bifulco each chipped in with two scores apiece. In cage,
Emma Lemanski registered the win after playing the entire game and making three saves.
Le Moyne wasted no time and struck first after scoring just 1:16 after the opening whistle to go up 1-0. However, Bifulco tied it up less than two minutes after to level the playing field. Sarah Hutchings managed to slip one past Lemanski as time was expiring at the end of the quarter to make it 2-1 in favor of the visitors as both teams headed into the second.
After
Izzy Grant won the opening draw control in the second, Heuser tied the game at 2-2 with her 26th goal of the season. The two teams traded scores before halftime and the scoreboard remained knotted at 3-3.
Opening the third, the Panthers capitalized on a Le Moyne turnover off the draw with McCabe netting her first goal to go ahead by one. The Panthers scored three more times while keeping their challengers at bay to hold a four-goal advantage heading into the final quarter.
Despite the Dolphin's two goals in the last period, Adelphi had tacked on four more of their own to put the nail in the coffin and seal their 12th straight victory.
Next up, the Panthers will take on #20 Bentley University on Wednesday, April 20 at 7pm in Waltham, MA.
