Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Takes Two from Stonehill; 3-1, 8-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team added to its win column in conference action, taking two from Stonehill on Friday afternoon, 3-1 and 8-0.

Game 1: Adelphi 3, Stonehill 1
A pair of Adelphi (19-7, 5-0 NE10) errors in the opening frame led to a run scored for Stonehill (5-13, 1-4 NE10).

The Skyhawks were only able to get three hits and one run off starting pitcher Claire Fon

Jaden Farhat and Faith Camilleri were walked back-to-back, bringing sophomore Alexa Sacripante to the plate with two outs and two runners on. The Sophomore doubled to score Farhat and even the score.

Sacripante ripped a clutch triple to right field that sent Courtney Wengryn home to put the Panthers up by one in the bottom of the sixth. Sacripante scored on an error during the next play for a 3-1 lead. She went a team-best 5-for-6 on the day, including a perfect 3-for-3 effort in Game 1.

Lindsey Hibbs struck out three in a row the following frame to end the game at 3-1. She threw two complete innings and retired five of six batters faced. Hibbs advanced to 10-3 on the season.

Game 2: Adelphi 8, Stonehill 0 F/6
After six innings of scoreless softball, Ziara Shreter started up a game-winning eight run rally for the Panthers.

Shreter walked and seven others singled to build a 6-0 lead. With two outs, Courtney Wengryn stepped to the plate for her second at bat of the sixth inning and poked shallow fly ball down the right field line to send the game winning runs across the plate.

The Skyhawks left two runners in scoring position, one in the first and one in the sixth. Sophia Cicchetti made two plays in center field to prevent any runners from touching home in the final inning of play.

Lindsey Hibbs started Game 2 and advanced to 11-3, claiming her second win of the day. The right hander threw 12 strikeouts and only allowed two hits in her shutout effort.

The Panthers return to Janet L. Ficke Field tomorrow for a 12 p.m. conference doubleheader against Bentley University.
