Baseball Loses Second Game of Back-to-Back With Molloy, 8-3

Garden City, N.Y. - After a wild finish 24 hours ago, the Adelphi University baseball team could not overcome an early deficit Sunday in an 8-3 loss to Molloy College in the second game of a home-and-home at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.

The Panthers (2-2) trailed 2-0 early and nearly had a rally in the fourth, but a Michael Draskin liner was snagged out of the air and doubled Kyle Olson off of first.

In the top of the fifth, John Rizzo induced an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded that created momentum for Adelphi. Cooper Johnson homered on an 0-1 offering in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Molloy responded though each time Adelphi closed the gap. Chris Peralta opened the sixth with a solo homer -- his second roundtripper of the afternoon.

Despite falling into a 4-1 hole, Olson worked a lead-off walk in the sixth to set the table for Draskin, who lifted a big fly out to dead center and brought the Panthers within 4-3.

The Lions then went to their pen and summoned Billy Wildeman in relief. Wildeman faced the minimum over his 3.2 innings of work, en route to earning the save.

Meanwhile, Molloy tacked on two runs on the scoreboard in the seventh, one in the eighth and another in the ninth.

The Panthers will look to turn the tide Tuesday (Mar. 8), as they are back home to square off with Mercy College at 3 p.m. in Garden City.
