Springfield, Mass. - Led by newcomers Joe Diggle and
Kyle Steinbach, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team defeated American International College 19-6 on Saturday, at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
Diggle posted a team-leading six points with to goals and four assists as Steinbach added four tallies to his stat line.
Edward Perlstein and
Brian Hoerter split duties at the faceoff, finishing 16-18 and 9-11, respectively.
Rookie Kyle O'Shea notched the first goal of the contest - the first of five in the opening quarter. O'Shea also tallied the opening score of the second frame, leading three consecutive for Adelphi (2-0, 1-0 NE10) before the hosting Yellow Jackets found the back of the net.
Sean McGovern scored in a man down possession in the second which sparked a 9-0 scoring run for the Panthers through the third, giving the visitors a 17-4 advantage with 15 minutes left to play.
The Brown and Gold held a 46-16 advantage in total shots, as AIC goalkeepers Troy Schweitzer and Nick Mee combined for 12 saves.
Adelphi is back in action on Monday, Mar. 14 when they host Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m.
