Oceanside, N.Y. - After playing on the road last week, the Adelphi University men's tennis team hosted Franklin Pierce University for a crucial NE10 showdown Wednesday afternoon and prevailed 4-1 at Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
With the victory, the Panthers have now won three of their last four and improved to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in NE10 play.
Adelphi now only sits a half game behind Le Moyne for first place in the conference standings.
The Brown and Gold came out strong out of the gate and swept all three doubles matches in convincing fashion.
Marko Jovanovic and
Gabriel Balestero won 6-3 at the No. 1 position, while
Pietro Sole and
Reece Farrow and
Thiago Negrao and
Thomas Horsley triumphed 6-3 at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
With the match ultimately being played to decision, Adelphi won three of the four singles matches to finish.
Marko Jovanovic claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.
Adi Saginayev won his No. 3 singles match by identical 6-3 scorelines.
Pietro Sole fought back from a set down to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 flight.
The Panthers wrap up the home portion of their 2022 schedule on their own courts, when they welcome Assumption University for a Senior Day showdown in Garden City on Saturday (Apr. 2) at 3 p.m.
