Manchester, N.H. - Claiming its six straight win, the Adelphi University softball team rallied for a pair of wins at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, 3-2 and 8-0.
Game 1: Adelphi 3, SNHU 2
The Panthers (17-7, 4-0 NE10) pushed the first runs across the plate in Game 1 after two scoreless innings of play.Â
Freshman
Ziara Shreter broke open to third inning with an infield single and was followed by another single off the bat off
Lauren O'Neill.
Courtney Wengryn followed the left-handed hitters with another single to load the bases.Â
Faith Camilleri poked a RBI single up the middle to score Shreter.
Alexa Sacripante stepped to the plate to score one more off a sacrifice fly to center field.Â
Adelphi claimed a 2-0 lead, and added one more in the fifth inning, once again sparked by Shreter. This time the leadoff hitter doubled and scored off Wengryn's infield sacrifice hit two batters later.Â
Southern New Hampshire (6-12, 2-2 NE10) rallied to convert an Adelphi error into two runs on the board, both of which were unearned.Â
Claire Fon (8-3, 0 SV) earned the start and went perfect through the first four innings until the Penmen squeezed out their first hit in the fifth.
Lindsey Hibbs (9-3, 3 SV) came in to relieve Fon and retired seven in a row to snag her third save of the season.Â
Game 2: Adelphi 8, SNHU 0 F/6
Adelphi batted around the lineup in the second inning after holding a 1-0 lead heading into the frame. The team produced seven hits including a home run from
Courtney Wengryn and a double from
Faith Camilleri.Â
With runners on first and second and two outs on the board,
Courtney Wengryn ripped a two-run shot to close out the five-run inning.Â
The Panthers pushed one run across in the fourth and sixth to secure the team's sixth run rule victory of the season.Â
Lindsey Hibbs started and tossed a no-hitter until a SNHU double in the fourth. Hibbs only gave up two hits during her shutout win, and walked none.Â
Adelphi will return to Janet L. Ficke Field on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Caldwell University.Â
