Baseball Completes Series Sweep of AIC With Come-From-Behind Victory

Garden City, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Adelphi University baseball team completed the sweep in its four-game series against American International College with a 7-5 come-from-behind win at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.

The Panthers, who improved to 12-4 and a perfect 4-0 in NE10 play, have now won seven in a row.

For the first time in the series, Adelphi found itself playing from behind.

Despite trailing 3-0 through three innings of play, the Brown and Gold broke through in the fourth, after Jack Ryan singled down the third-base line to drive in Kyle Olson.

Olson kept the offense rolling the next inning. After pinch-hitter Alex Rende scored on Anthony Cipri's infield single to pull the Panthers within a run, Olson tripled down the left-field line to tie things up and then scored on a wild pitch to give Adelphi a 4-3 lead.

AIC threatened the lead in the top of the seventh. The Yellow Jackets had the bases loaded with two away, but freshman reliever Jacob Pedersen struck out Fitzgerald on three straight pitches, freezing him for strike three to get out of the jam.

The Adelphi bats responded by picking up some insurance. With one out, Michael Draskin started a streak of four straight singles, which included Jose Matos driving him home. Ryan scored on a sacrifice fly and Jack Wishner plated Matos the following at-bat, making the score 7-3.

Two runs came across for AIC in the top of the eighth, but Pedersen once again struck out the final batter with runners in scoring position to minimize the damage.

Kevin Glasser put the Yellow Jackets down in order in the top of the ninth with two strikeouts to earn his first save of the season.

Andrew Williams picked up his third win of the season, after throwing five innings and giving up three runs on six hits, while striking out seven. Six different Panthers recorded an RBI in a balanced offensive performance.

The nine-game homestand concludes for Bill Ianniciello's club on Tuesday (Mar. 29), when it hosts Queens College at 3:30 p.m.
