Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Sweeps Saint Anselm in Conference Opener; 1-0, 2-1

Manchester, N.H. - The Adelphi University softball team claimed its first pair of Northeast-10 Conference wins at Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon, 1-0 and 2-1.

Game 1: Adelphi 1, Saint Anselm 0
With the game tied 0-0 heading into the last inning, Jaden Farhat blasted a solo shot that ultimatley led to Adelphi (15-7, 2-0 NE10) taking Game 1.

Saint Anselm (7-10, 0-2 NE10) had an opportunity to score the next frame, but Lindsey Hibbs came in for the save to keep the home team off the board for a 1-0 Panther victory.

Claire Fon earned the start for the Panthers and had her way with the Hawks' offense, striking out six batters. Fon battled to pitch her way out of two innings with runners in scoring position.

As a result of Fon's work inside the circle, the Hawks had nine runners left on base and just five hits.

Adelphi was only produced three hits, including Farhat's homer in the seventh. The team only had one runner reach third base and was left stranded, adding to the five total runners left on base.

Game 2: Adelphi 2, Saint Anselm 1
The Panthers and Hawks each scored one run in the third inning to send the game into the fifth inning as a 1-1 tie.

Angela Lignelli hit a leadoff single to center field and was replaced on first by Angelina Kellogg who was moved over to second by Ashley Lombardi's sacrifice bunt. Ziara Shreter sent Kellogg home on a long outfield single for a 2-1 lead that ended up winning the game.

Shreter went a team-best 4-for-7 on the day with one RBI and one run scored - accounting for both runs of the 2-1 win in Game 2.

Saint Anselm tallied four hits as a team over the next three plate appearances, but were unable to convert any into runs on the board.

Lindsey Hibbs threw seven complete innings to go along with seven strikeouts and allowed just one free base. Hibbs now sits at 8-3 with two saves.

The Panthers will remain in Manchester, N.H. to play a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire tomorrow, Mar. 27.
