Manchester, N.H. - Despite having two separate leads in the match, the Adelphi University men's tennis team fell short at NE10 rival Southern New Hampshire University, 4-3, on Saturday.
Although Adelphi (4-6, 2-1 NE10) lost at the top flight, the Panthers still claimed the doubles point from the perennial conference contender.
Pietro Sole and
Reece Farrow played their second match together at No. 2 doubles and won by a 6-3 scoreline.
Thiago Negrao and
Thomas Horsley partnered up again at third doubles and prevailed 6-4.
In singles, the Panthers built up a 2-0 advantage in the contest, after Farrow's straight-set victory (6-0, 6-3) in the No. 4 singles spot.
Negrao's result at fifth singles had Adelphi a point away from taking the match. He only lost four games over the final two sets in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.
Gabriel Balestero and
Luke Attride-Stirling each forced a third set in their respective matches, but dropped hard-fought 6-2 and 7-5 decisions in those tilts at No. 2 and No. 6 singles.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers now trek home and face Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday (Mar. 30) at 2 p.m. at Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside, N.Y.
