Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#3 Men's Lacrosse Outlasts #11 St. Anselm in 15-14 Thriller

Joseph Diggle scored the game winner in the fourth quarter

Garden City, NY - Five goals in the first and third quarters propelled the No. 3 men's lacrosse team to a 15-14 victory earlier this afternoon at Motamed Field.

There were eight players that scored for Adelphi (5-0, 3-0) with James HallJason Rebaudo and Kyle Steinbach leading the way with three goals apiece. Additionally, on the offensive end, Brian Harinski was the lone Panther with a multi-assist game, dishing out two. Defensively, Brian Hoerter posted a game high nine ground balls while cage minder Dylan Renner spent all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 11 saves in the win. As a team, the Panthers out-shot the Greyhounds by a 47-41 margin and won the ground ball battle, 38-30.

The first quarter was action packed with a total of seven goals being scored. Steinbach, Dylan Barry and Hoerter put the Panthers in a good starting position as they each found the back of the cage within the first four minutes of the opening whistle. At the end of the first, the Brown and Gold enjoyed a 5-2 lead.

Two of Hall's three goals came in the second while No. 11 St. Anselm (3-2, 1-2 NE10) fired back with a five-goal quarter of their own, tying the game twice in that span. With 22 seconds left before the halftime break, Hall found the back of the cage with an unassisted effort to give his team the 8-7 lead heading into the locker room.

Steinbach sparked a 4-0 run in the third to go ahead 12-5, but the visitors responded with three unanswered to reel the Panthers back in and make it a two-goal affair. Jason Rebaudo closed the third and opened the fourth in the same fashion; by firing a shot past the Hawk's CJ Hart. However, the visitors did not go away easily, tacking on three more unanswered to pull within one. With 5:15 remaining, Joseph Diggle netted his second goal of the game which proved to be the game winner. St. Anselm was able to get one more goal before the final whistle, but the Adelphi defense held them at bay the remainder of the game.

Up next, the Panthers will take on the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday, March 29 at Motamed Field. The game is slated for a 7pm start.
