Softball Closes Out Six-Game Home Stand with Doubleheader Sweep Over Queens; 5-2, 11-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team ended its six-game home stretch with a perfect 6-0 record with a doubleheader sweep over Queens on Friday afternoon, 5-2 and 11-0.

Game 1: Adelphi 5, Queens 2
Game 1 sat tied at 2-2 until Sophia Cicchetti blasted a sixth inning lead-off triple to start up a three-run rally for the Panthers (9-6).

Adelphi had a RBI single, double and triple in order from Jaden Farhat, Angela Lignelli and Ziara Shreter to give the hosts a 5-2 lead with one inning left to play.

Cicchetti led the Panthers' offense in Game 1 with a 2-for-3 performance that included one triple and one run scored. 

Claire Fon earned the start inside the circle and lasted three innings. She struck out three and let up one run. Lindsey Hibbs came in and threw three scoreless innings to take the win with seven strikeouts to advance to 5-2 on the season.

Game 2: Adelphi 11, Game 0 F/5
Cicchetti once again led the offense in Game 2. This time the Sophomore went 2-for-2 with two triples, two RBIs and one run scored. 

Adelphi had a combined 10 hits from seven players with Sophia Cicchetti, Faith Camilleri and Courtney Wengryn contributing two hits apiece.  

The Panthers scored 11 runs in just three innings and batted around the order in the second after scoring five runs off of four hits. 

Fon earned the start again in Game 2 and took the win. She held Queens (0-4) to no runs in four innings pitched and struck out six of 14 batters faced. Hibbs came in for the last inning and claimed two strikeouts. 

Adelphi has now won nine of their last 10 games to advance to 10-6 on the season. The team will travel to Wilmington University on Sunday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader in Delaware.
