Game 1: Adelphi 6, Bridgeport 2
Game 1 was a one-hit game in favor of the Panthers (8-6) until the bottom of the third inning. With two runners in scoring position and two outs on the board,
Courtney Wengryn rocked a line drive down the right field line that resulted in the redshirt freshman touching all the bases for a three-run inside the park home run. Adelphi took the 3-0 lead in the third and never looked back.
Alexa Sacripante and
Faith CamilleriĀ had back-to-back RBI hits in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the lead to 6-0.Ā
With two innings left at the plate, Bridgeport (9-6) squeezed two across the dish off three hits in an effort to equal the score.Ā
The Brown and Gold had six players register hits for seven total.
Ziara Shreter led the way with a 2-for-3 performance and two runs scored.Ā
Claire Fon earned the start and the win in Game 1. Fon held the Purple Knights to six hits and walked none over 6.2 innings.
Lindsey Hibbs came in for the save with a runner in scoring position to strike out the last batter of the game with. Fon advanced to 4-3 inside the circle, while Hibbs recorded her first save.Ā
Game 2: Adelphi 5, Bridgeport 0
Hibbs earned the start in Game 2 and challenged Bridgeport at the plate. She threw another shutout and retired 11 batters, walked one and gave up just three hits. The right hander now sits at 4-2 on the season.Ā
ShreterĀ drove the first pitch of the game to the center field fence for a three-bagger to start the game. The next two batters reached on error and two runners made it home safe.
The following three innings were a battle of the defenses. The hosts had three hits and five runners left in scoring position before they were able to break silence.
Faith CamilleriĀ doubled to left field and was replaced on the base path by freshman
Angelina Kellogg who scored the third run of the game on a fielder's choice two batters later.Ā
Another Camilleri double scored
Ashley Lombardi and
Courtney WengrynĀ in the sixth to cap off the evening for the Panthers.
The Brown and Gold outhit the Purple KnightsĀ 10-3 on the game.
Adelphi will now host Queens College on Friday, March 18 for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader.Ā
