Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Sweeps Home Opener Against Mercy; 6-0, 8-0

Garden City, N.Y. - In its first home doubleheader of the season, the Adelphi University softball team took a pair of non-conference games from Mercy on Monday afternoon, 6-0 and 8-0.

Game 1: Adelphi 6, Mercy 0
Sophmore Alexa Sacripante drilled a single to right center that scored Ziara Shreter and Courtney Wengryn to put the Panthers (6-6) up 2-0 heading into the top of the second.

The hosts advanced two more runners across the plate in the fourth on the thrown down to second, and capped off the inning with a Courtney Wengryn RBI single to boost the lead to 5-0.

Shreter led the Panthers on the base path with two stolen bases and two runs scored, including the last one of the game in the sixth inning.

Claire Fon had a big defensive game inside the circle for Adelphi. The Pitcher had six assists and eight strikeouts to account for 14 of the 21 outs in Game 1. She advanced to 3-3 on the season claiming her first win on Ficke Field for the 2022 season.

Game 2: Adelphi 8, Mercy 0 F/5
The Brown and Gold were hot on both sides of the ball in Game 2.

Lindsey Hibbs earned the start on the mound and retired 11 batters in her no-hitter effort. She was one hit batter away from a perfect game - walking none and allowing no runs to score.

At the dish, Wengryn led the way with a 2-for-3 performance with the final two RBIs of the game in the third inning.

Adelphi hit around the lineup with six hits and  six runs scored in the first inning. The six hits came from four singles, a Jaden Farhat stand-up double and a Sophia Cicchetti triple to the right field fence.

The Panthers will host the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, March 16 for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader on Janet L. Ficke Field.
