Lakeland, N.J. - The Adelphi University softball team added to the win column in Game 1 on Friday before a Georgian Court six-run burst swept Game 2 from under the Panthers in the night cap.
Game 1: Adelphi 4, Georgian Court 2
Ziara Shreter ripped a leadoff triple to left field to sit in scoring position with
Lauren O'Neill at the plate. O'Neill poked a long single to center field to send Shreter across home for a 1-0 Panthers lead.
Georgian Court evened the score off an infield RBI in the third. Adelphi answered with three runs the next inning backed by a
Jaden Farhat home run and
Courtney Wengryn double.
Wengryn went 2-for-3 on the game with a pair of two baggers and one run scored.
Claire Fon earned the start and win inside the circle, knocking off six batters along the way.
Game 2: Adelphi 5, Georgian Court 6
Adelphi held a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Lions snapped the lead by sending six runners across the dish.
The Brown and Gold put up two and three runs in the third and sixth innings, respectively. Farhat and Wengryn both slugged doubles to help the Panthers' offense in the third and sixth. The pair combined for four RBIs in Game 2.
Ziara Shreter provided a spark in the leadoff spot again in Game 2. The Rookie had a team-best 3-for-4 performance with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
Lindsey Hibbs started the game and retired 11 of 21 batters faced in five frames.
Brianna Pearson relieved Hibbs after the starter gave up her first runs in nine innings pitched.
Georgian Court got their offense started in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff single that led to three more hits, including a two-run home run off the bat of Alyssa Rue that gave the Lions the go-ahead run for a 6-5 lead.
Ultimately, the Panthers were unable to push the equalizer across in the next frame.
Adelphi will return home on Monday, March 14 for a 2:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Mercy College.
