Philadelphia, Pa. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team hit the road Friday for the first time this spring, but fell 5-2 to Jefferson University in a non-conference tilt at the Salaman Tennis Courts in Philadelphia.
While the Rams (4-2) came away with a sweep of the doubles point, the Panthers (2-4) forced tiebreakers in two of the matches.
Valentin Le Goupil-Maier and
Reece Farrow lost 7-4 in their tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, while
Thiago Negrao and
Thomas Horsley came up just short in a 7-5 tiebreak at the No. 3 flight.
In singles play,
Marko Jovanovic continued on his rampant tear with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory in the premier No. 1 match. He has won his last four singles contests.
Salomon Arce Lema prevailed by identical 6-3, 6-3 scorelines at No. 6 singles and -- at the time -- put Adelphi ahead 2-1 in the match.
Gabriel Balestero and
Luke Attride-Stirling had Jefferson on the ropes after taking the first set off their respective opponents, but each lost the next two.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers will next meet Queens College this Tuesday (Mar. 15) at noon in Flushing, N.Y.
