Springfield, Mass. - On Thursday night, the Adelphi University women's basketball team dropped a tough 71-56 decision to American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action at Butova Gymnasium.
Senior guard
Ty'zhea Hawkins continued her torrid play of late with a 22-point evening. She shot 8-of-16 from the field, including four threes, and scored in double figures for the fifth time in as many games.
Emily Miccile contributed a line of 13 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while
Madison Graham buried two three-pointers in an eight-point outing.
However, the Panthers (10-10, 8-7 NE10) turned the ball over 21 times and were out-rebounded 41-31 in the contest.
It didn't prevent Adelphi from getting out to a hot start. The Brown and Gold raced out to a 14-2 lead in the first 4:38, Hawkins and Miccile combined for nine of the 14 points in the initial run.
But before the quarter was over, AIC (8-9, 5-6 NE10) was ahead 22-17. The hosts never trailed the rest of the way.
The Panthers are back in action Tuesday (Feb. 8), when they host NE10 rival Le Moyne College at the Center for Recreation and Sport at 5:30 p.m.
