Caldwell, NJ - With a non-conference contest on the docket, the Adelphi University men's basketball team won its fifth straight on Thursday evening, defeating Caldwell University 69-45 inside the George R. Newman Center.
Adelphi (15-6) was held scoreless over a span of four minutes in the opening half which saw Caldwell (7-11) work its way out to a nine-point lead at the 12:00 mark.
Chris Coalmon drained back-to-back three-pointers to break the silence and send the Panthers on a 22-2 run over the next eight minutes. That stretch included makes from beyond the arc for the visitors from four different players as the Cougars experienced a scoring drought and several turnovers.
The double-digit lead held by the Panthers was not relinquished in the second half, as they maintained a 20+ point advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Coalmon was the leading scorer for Adelphi, connecting on 7-of-12 shot with three three-pointers to finish with 17 points. He was one of three players in double-figures as Artistotelis Sotiriou and
Ronnie Silva chipped in 14 and 13, respectively.
Worth noting, senior Anthony Cooper scored 16 points for the Cougars to become the 21
st player in program history to score 1,000 career points, despite the loss.
Adelphi experiences a bye weekend and will be back in action at home on Tuesday, Feb. 8. as they host Le Moyne College inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
