Pembroke, N.C. - The Adelphi University softball team opened up its 2022 season at UNC Pembroke on Friday. The Panthers dropped two games to start the season, 5-0 and 7-1.
Game 1: Adelphi 0, UNCP 5
The UNCP Braves got off to a hot start in Game 1, scoring all five runs in the first two innings of play. The Braves tallied three back-to-back runs in the first and turned around with a two-run homer off the bat of Lauren Hilbourn in the second inning for a 5-0 lead to seal the deal in Game 1.
Sophomore
Alexa Sacripante and freshman
Ziara Shreter both recorded their first hits of the season. Sacripante singled to center field during her first at bat, and Shreter made her debut in the Brown and Gold with a double in the top of the sixth.
Lindsey Hibbs earned her first start in the circle and dished out two strikeouts. Freshman
Brianna Pearson replaced Hibbs in the third inning and retired three batters during her first outing in a Panther uniform.
Game 2: Adelphi 1, UNCP 7
Adelphi got on the board in Game 2 to tie the game 1-1 in the fourth inning. Sacripante singled to center and scored during the next frame after
Faith Camilleri reached on a fielding error.
The Panthers were unable to slow down the Braves' offense in the bottom of the inning. UNCP sent four runners across the plate off three hits -- one of which was a home run, this time off the bat of Madison Dyson. The Braves scored two more unanswered runs in the next inning, advancing the score to 7-1.
Claire Fon got the start in game two and only gave up one hit in her three innings.
The Panthers will face Wingate tomorrow, Feb. 26 in doubleheader action with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m..
