Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Streak Snapped at SNHU, 69-62

Manchester, NH - A halftime lead was not enough for the Adelphi University men's basketball team as its seven-game win streak was snapped Monday evening in a non-division matchup with Southern New Hampshire, 69-62.

The Panthers (17-7, 11-5) entered the game pitted tied for fourth in the latest D2SIDA East Region media poll but were outscored by 14 points in the second half en route to the loss. The Penmen (13-9, 9-8 NE10) used a combined 29 points from turnovers and second chance opportunities as they held an advantage on the glass 43-38 to secure the win.

Adelphi got out to a hot start, scoring the first six points of the contest, and extending its lead to double-digits when Aristotelis Sotiriou laid in a shot to double the home team score at 7:46. The Penmen cut the deficit to single digits, but Ronnie Silva's jumper outside the paint at the buzzer made it a seven-point contest in favor of the Panthers.

In the opening half Adelphi, a team that normally lives outside the three-point arc, was held to a single trifecta on 12 attempts from downtown.

Less than a minute into the second frame, the home team hit a stride that saw three consecutive three-pointers for the Penmen, capped with a bucket from Aaron Gray that knotted the game at 36-all at 16:16. The ensuing 11 minutes featured a Southern New Hampshire run of  37-13 that gave the hosts a 13-point edge with under five minutes left in regulation.

From that point on, the Brown and Gold did not get closer than six points, ultimately falling by seven, despite a late three points from Jake Hlywiak with six seconds left.

Silva scored a team-leading 18 points as Sotiriou knocked down 7-of-8 from the field for a new career-high 16 points. Adonis Williams recorded his tenth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 defensive rebounds.

Adelphi will remain on the road for a Southwest Division matchup with Pace University on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
