Women's Basketball Stumbles at CSI to Close Out 2022

Staten Island, N.Y. - In an afternoon tilt leading up to ball drop, the Adelphi University women's basketball team dropped a 68-60 decision to the College of Staten Island on New Year's Eve.

As a result, the Panthers will usher in 2023 at 6-5 overall, snapping a three-game winning streak.

After a tight-lipped first half, Lauren Hammersley and Christina Sanchez both knocked down a third-quarter triple to give Adelphi its largest lead of the game at 46-38.

CSI (5-8) wouldn't back down on its own floor and rallied to a 52-50 advantage as the third quarter concluded.

Midway through the fourth, Fiona Mannion and Ty'zhea Hawkins hit on back-to-back buckets that leveled the score at 56-all.

However, the Panthers were limited to just two field goals in the final 4:30. Meanwhile, the Dolphins used a 10-2 run in that stretch to surge ahead for good.

Adelphi turned the ball over 22 times in the contest and CSI converted those miscues into 32 points.

Jenna Jordan had the game-high with 22 points. She also grabbed ten rebounds for her third double-double in as many games. Hawkins added a line of 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and the Panthers now begin the long stretch of conference play after the New Year, starting Wednesday (Jan. 4) at home against Pace University at 1:30 p.m.
