University Place, WA - As part of the NCAA Division II Festival, Katherine Marsh competed in the 2022 Cross Country Championship on Friday afternoon, just south of Seattle, Washington. 

Out of 262 harriers, Marsh placed 187th overall in the field, in a time of 23:04.5. She posted an average mile of 6:11.3 with a 5K finish at 19:15.9. The Adelphi competitor was the fifth overall finisher out of the East Region, which was led by East Region Champion Ashley Corcoran, who placed 88th by crossing the tape in 21:57.0. 

"I wasn't too nervous," Marsh said once the race concluded. "I made sure to stay calm and tried to race the race that was given to me."

Marsh managed to move up 22 spots over the course of the race in her first National Championship outing as a senior. 

"I'm super proud of Katherine in the way that she navigated her first NCAA Championship," commented Head Coach Katie Rees. "She didn't let her pre-race nerves get the best of her, and she ran confidently and patiently at the beginning in order to give herself room to move up during the second half of the race."

"We went into this race with the main goal being to gain experience."

Marsh will return to the east coast and prepare for the track and field season, which is slated to begin Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Youree-Spence Garcia Meet hosted by St. John's University at the Ocean Breeze Complex.
