Bloomfield, N.J. - A tight-knit affair for much of the game, the Adelphi University women's basketball team outscored Bloomfield College 26-13 in the fourth quarter of a 77-60 win Monday afternoon on the road.
As Adelphi (6-4) clung to a 56-54 lead two minutes into the fourth quarter, the Panthers unleashed a 21-6 run over the game's final 7:47.
Senior forward
Jenna Jordan hit on back-to-back lay-ups to spark the run. Sophomore guard
Kaitlyn O'Connell and freshman guard
Christina Sanchez both drained three-pointers. Fellow sophomore guard
Rolanda Robinson added a pair of lay-ups, as well.
Additionally, the Panthers caused five Bloomfield (1-9) turnovers in that span, and limited the opposition to 4-of-11 shooting from the field.
Adelphi overcame a sluggish start, but trailed only 14-12 after the first quarter. Until the fourth, the lead was no more than a couple of possessions for either team.
Ty'zhea Hawkins continued her rampant start with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Jordan secured another double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
As a team, the Panthers knocked down 10 total threes, with most of those contributions coming from the bench. Robinson hit three trifectas in a 13-point day, while O'Connell sank four threes for 12 points.
Head Coach
Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad will go head-to-head with the College of Staten Island on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) at 1:30 p.m. in Staten Island, N.Y.
