Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team is back over .500, after Wednesday's 66-55 victory over Molloy University in non-conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
The Panthers (5-4) got out to a 23-10 advantage after the first quarter and never looked back.
Although Molloy (2-8) was within a bucket late in the opening period, Adelphi ended the quarter on a suffocating 11-0 run.
Maura Carney hit a three that pushed the lead to 17-10 and
Ty'zhea Hawkins drained back-to-back buckets to close it out.
Lauren Hammersley, who led all players with 16 points on the night, made her first three field goals of the second quarter -- including a pair of threes -- to widen the gap to 31-15.
Adelphi shot 50.0 percent (15-of-30) from the field in the first half, while also holding Molloy to just 31.6 percent (12-of-38).
Kaitlyn O'Connell provided some fireworks late in the third quarter with a three-pointer that gave the Panthers their largest lead of the contest at 57-37.
Four players scored in double figures for Adelphi, led by Hammersley's 16. O'Connell subbed in off the bench to score 12 points. Hawkins and
Jenna Jordan dropped 10 points apiece. Carney and
Fiona Mannion each contributed six points.
