Indianapolis, Ind. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team found out Monday night that it will compete as the No. 5 seed in the 2022 NCAA Division II East Region Championship.
For the first time in five years, the Panthers are going dancing, behind a 12-5-2 record and the team's first NE10 Championship final appearance since 2015.
In a re-match of a regular-season meeting back on Sept. 6, Adelphi will battle fourth-seeded Mercy College in a Friday morning matinee (Nov. 11) at 10 a.m. at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, N.Y.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students with valid ID and $1 for children between the ages of 2-to-12.
Earlier this fall, Mercy took the regular-season meeting from Adelphi by a 1-0 final. The Mavericks enter the tournament as the reigning ECC Tournament champions, following a 5-4 penalty-kick shootout over Molloy in the final.
The Panthers are 11-2-1 all-time against Mercy -- dating back to their days as league opponents in the East Coast Conference -- and won via a 5-0 clean sheet in their only postseason affair in 2013.
Adelphi makes the return trip to Albany, after heading up the Thruway this past Sunday to battle The College of Saint Rose in the NE10 Championship.
The other first-round contest will feature top-seeded Saint Rose and No. 8 seed Jefferson University. The two prevailing teams then square off at 2 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 13) to determine who will advance to next week's East Region final.
Freshman midfielder/forward
Madison Apicella has had a historic first season that -- so far -- includes NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year honors. She reigns atop Adelphi's scoring leaders with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points.
