Indianapolis, Ind. - As the Panthers sat and awaited its fate on the tournament bubble, the Adelphi University men's soccer team learned that it would fill out Super Region I as the No. 10 seed in the 2022 NCAA Division II Championship, the tournament field was announced Monday.
With only five at-large bids that were handed out, Adelphi earned the region's final bid with its 8-4-6 overall record.
While the two schools are only separated by twelve miles, the Panthers will meet No. 7 seed Queens College in NCAA first-round action Thursday (Nov. 10) at 3 p.m. in Charleston, W. Va.
Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens, students with valid ID and children between the ages of 2-to-12.
Adelphi is making its 10th appearance all-time in the NCAA Division II Tournament --- matching as many appearances as the team had as an NCAA Division I program.
A local rivalry that dates as far back as 1958, the Panthers own a 10-3-2 record all-time against the Knights and have won their last seven head-to-head meetings. Their last affair came in 2015, when Adelphi prevailed in a 3-0 shutout at Motamed Field.
The Panthers are expected to get star striker
Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca back in time for the start of the NCAA Tournament. A two-time NE10 First Team All-Conference selection, Descalzo still leads all Adelphi scorers with nine goals, despite missing the last five games with a dislocated thumb.
The winner of Thursday's game will play No. 2 seed and host institution University of Charleston on Saturday (Nov. 12) in an NCAA second-round contest at 3 p.m.
