Albany, N.Y. - In its first NE10 Championship final appearance since 2015, the No. 3 seed Adelphi University women's soccer team lost by a 4-0 final to top-seeded The College of Saint Rose at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany.
The Golden Knights (17-0-3), who won their third-consecutive NE10 title, had the lead from almost the get-go, when Ryleigh Hopeck broke the ice 1:11 into the match.
Saint Rose had built a commanding 3-0 first-half advantage, before Adelphi (12-5-2) registered its first shot on goal.
In the second half, the hosts struck again in the opening minute, off a goal by Lauren Amerena.
Freshmen midfielders
Madison Apicella and
Dylann Trahey were both named to the NE10 All-Championship Team.
Apicella led the Panthers with three shots in the championship game.
Maria D'Angelo added a second-half shot on goal.
Adelphi now awaits word on a possible at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Division II Championship. The selection show will air tomorrow (Nov. 7) at 7 p.m. on
