Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Sees Victory Slip Away at SNHU

Manchester, NH - In a contest with 14 lead changes, the Adelphi University men's basketball team was on the unfavorable side of a 70-65 decision, as they fell to Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday evening, in league action.

The Penmen (4-3, 2-1 NE10) shot over 50 percent from the field as a team, as the Panthers (3-4, 0-3 NE10) fell below that mark, sitting at 44 percent for the game.

From the opening basket, both teams made it apparent that they were not afraid to shoot the three-ball, which was evident when an Elijah Lewis tre sparked an 11-2 run in favor of Adelphi to put them ahead 15-8 nearly ten minutes in. Coming out of the second media timeout, neither side recorded a basket for over two minutes, until five unanswered points from the home team made way for the next media break, with Southern New Hampshire trailing by three.

After the six minute mark in the opener, neither team led by more than four points, however Adelphi saw a two-point deficit heading into the locker room at intermission.

At the break, Aristotelis Sotiriou had put up a quiet nine points to lead the Panthers, while adding four defensive boards to help the visitors lead in that category.

Matthew Price and Ronnie Silva combined for three three-pointers to open the second half and regain the lead, but the home team's Matthew Becht was returning the favor every chance he got. The junior put up a season-high 27 points with the help of six makes from beyond the arc.

The lead was narrow for SNHU, but the home squad maintained the advantage throughout much of the second frame. A Sotiriou second chance jumper at 5:21 gave the Panthers a brief moment in the driver's seat, but several miscues and fouls down the stretch gave the Penmen the momentum they needed to close out the victory.

The men's basketball team will stay on the road as they take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm College at 1:00 p.m on Saturday, Dec. 3.
