Women's Soccer Headed to First NE10 Final Since 2015!

Rindge, N.H. - The 2022 NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year has just sent the No. 3 seed Adelphi University women's soccer team to its first NE10 Championship final since 2015.

With 6:35 left in the second overtime period, Madison Apicella won a ball in the air to get in free behind the Franklin Pierce defense for a 1-v-1 with the keeper and buried her own rebound.

"Franklin Pierce was a very good team and our players stayed focused on what we needed to execute for the full 90 minutes," said Head Coach Brooke DeRosa. "I'm very proud of how we performed as a team, especially in overtime to get the result we needed to move onto the final."

The Panthers' last appearance in the NE10 final came in 2015, when Adelphi matched up with this Sunday's opponent -- The College of Saint Rose -- and prevailed 1-0 on a goal by Laura Gomez.

Additionally, Morgan Salmon's older sister (Taylor Salmon) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player that year.

Graduate keeper Lydia Fraga Cordoba made a second start against Franklin Pierce, after playing the full ninety against the Ravens back on Oct. 12 in what was a gutwrenching 1-0 loss.

She came up with an outstanding 11-save performance -- the most in a single game by an Adelphi keeper since Sarah Hofmeier's 13-save outing against Franklin Pierce in 2019.

Although the hosts had the edge in play in the first half and got out to the initial lead, Kayla Mushorn responded before halftime with the equalizer.

As the waning minutes of the opening half ticked down, Mushorn won an aerial battle at the near post off a corner that got behind Franklin Pierce netminder Emilie Fox.

The Ravens owned a dominating 23-11 advantage in shots in regulation, but Adelphi had a 13-12 edge in shots on goal for the entire match.

Adelphi will go head-to-head with top-seeded and two-time defending NE10 Tournament champion Saint Rose on Sunday (Nov. 6) at 2 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
