Garden City, N.Y. - On the strength of a 32-point game by
Ty'zhea Hawkins, the Adelphi University women's basketball team handled University of Bridgeport, 86-67, in non-conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport on Sunday.
Through five games, Hawkins currently ranks second among the NE10's leaders in scoring (21.2 ppg) and field-goal percentage (.571).
Hawkins' 32 points are the most for any Panther since
Niajah Morgan had the same total against The College of Saint Rose in February 2019.
She hit back-to-back buckets to spark a significant 12-2 run that closed out the first half.
Christina Sanchez added a trey to help the Panthers (3-2) to a 44-29 halftime advantage.
Adelphi kept the pressure on Bridgeport (3-3) in the second half. The Panthers shot 50.0 percent (18-of-36) from the field and twice built as much as a 24-point lead in the fourth quarter.
While Adelphi committed only ten turnovers on the day, Bridgeport was forced into 23 miscues and the hosts converted those errors into 37 of their 86 points.
Jenna Jordan got her second double-double as a Panther, totaling 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Lauren Hammersley added 10 points, and
Sydney Rosenoff contributed nine points in the effort.
Head Coach
Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad will now travel to Manchester, N.H. for a 5:30 p.m. opening tip against Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday night (Nov. 30).
