Manchester, N.H. - The first win in 2022-23 for the Adelphi University women's basketball team came Saturday on the strength of a 27-point performance by
Lauren Hammersley at Saint Anselm College at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
In thirty minutes off the bench, Hammersley buried seven pointers and shot 9-of-19 from the field to lead Adelphi (1-2, 1-1 NE10) to a 70-65 victory.
In a contest where the Panthers made thirteen threes,
Rolanda Robinson made three trifectas and nearly tied her career-high with 15 points.
Ty'zhea Hawkins finished in double figures for a third-straight game with 12 points.
Adelphi trailed 50-41 midway through the third quarter, until an 8-0 run had the Panthers right back in the game.
A Hammersley three-pointer sparked the comeback and a Robinson triple got Adelphi within 50-49.
The Brown and Gold then used a 21-13 fourth-quarter edge to pull ahead. Along the way, Adelphi scored the first ten points of the quarter for a 59-52 advantage with 6:13 to go.
Saint Anselm (1-3, 0-2 NE10) closed the gap to 62-59 in the last two minutes, but Adelphi went 7-of-10 from the line in crunch time to seal the win.
The Panthers got 40 of their points from the bench, where Hammersley and
Madison Graham combined for 35 of them.
