West Haven, Conn. - In Wednesday's start to conference play for the Panthers, the Adelphi University women's basketball team lost by a 75-54 final to NE10 rival University of New Haven at Charger Gymnasium.
For the second time in as many games,
Ty'zhea Hawkins led the Brown and Gold in scoring, dropping a team-high 19 points.
Jenna Jordan was the other Panther in double figures with 11 points.
While Adelphi (0-2, 0-1 NE10) kept it close for much of the first half, New Haven (2-0, 1-0 NE10) still led by double digits with three minutes left in the second quarter.
Sophomore guards
Kaitlyn O'Connell and
Maura Carney each buried a three before halftime to close the gap to 31-25 at the break.
A Hawkins three-point play midway through the third quarter got Adelphi within 40-33, but a 10-3 response by the Chargers had the hosts back ahead by double figures.
The Panthers came within two possessions again in the fourth quarter, until New Haven closed out the game on an 18-4 run.
