Garden City, N.Y. - In front of a full gymnasium, the Adelphi University men's basketball team saw six different scorers reach double figures, en route to a 93-69 defeat of Bloomfield College on Wednesday evening.
Dayshaun Walton led the offense with 16 points courtesy of 6-for-10 shooting which included four makes from beyond the arc.
Aristotelis Sotiriou, who was named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, notched his first double-double of the season, accounting for 11 points and rebounds.
The Panthers (2-1) were hot in the opening frame, shooting a dazzling 54.3 percent (19-of-35) with eight three-pointers as the Bears (1-2) were left to 39 percent shooting although managed to take 16 trips to the free throw line.
Adelphi was moving through the first half quickly, dropping 14 points on fast break opportunities with an impressive 25 points coming from reserves. Bloomfield managed to dip within single digits of the home team after a five-point stretch, but contributions from
Mason Jackson and
Jake Hlywiak pushed the Panther advantage back out to 14.
The hosts reached 50 on two makes from Sotiriou at the foul line to get things going in the second half. A three-pointer by
Matthew Price with 12:31 left on the clock saw Adelphi leading by 18, an advantage they continued to extend with each possession.
A dagger from newcomer justin Perez from beyond the arc gave the Brown and Gold a 30-point lead over the CACC competition with just over two minutes to play. For the contest, Adelphi shot over 51 percent, marking their second straight contest of reaching at least 50 percent from the field.
Mason Jackson poured in a new career-high with 14 points, on 7-for-14 shooting as
Andrew Delaney almost notched a double-double with nine boards and eight points. As a team, the Panthers pulled down 34 defensive rebounds and eight different players dished out assists.
Adelphi will return to action this Saturday, Nov. 19 when they travel to Charger Gymnasium to take on the University of New Haven. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
