Garden City, N.Y. - With a come from behind win in the second set, the Adelphi University volleyball team picked up its fifth consecutive win on Saturday, taking down Le Moyne College in straight sets.
Lilyen McCarthy led the Panthers (11-8, 2-1 NE10) in the NE10 matchup, collecting a game-high 11 kills with an impressive .625 hitting percentage to boot.
Macarty McQueen also found herself in double-digits in the kills column, accounting for 10 as she also added seven digs. The offense was paced again by
Brenna Valsted, who finished the contest with 33 assists.
The home team cruised to a 25-13 opening set victory using a 9-4 stretch throughout to maintain the advantage, ultimately closing out the frame with six of the final seven points.
Momentum quickly shifted as the Dolphins (5-9, 1-2 NE10) took a three point lead in the second, however back-to-back kills from Valsted evened the set at 10-all. Le Moyne proceeded to put up a five point run, capped with a service ace. Adelphi fought to stay in the set with four consecutive points of their own, but the visitors managed to keep the hosts at bay.
An attack error from
Samantha Collins handed the Dolphins set point, but untimely errors kept Adelphi in the game. Collins and McQueen put up two huge stops at the net and Valsted added a service ace to make it even at 24-all. Another ace from the Louisville, KY native put set point in the home team's favor, which ultimately resulted in a 26-24 win.
Adelphi trailed for the opening points of the third and final set, bu used an 8-2 run to regain control en route to earning its second NE10 win this season.
Adelphi will be supporting Morgan's Message on Tuesday, Oct. 11 when they welcome Southern Connecticut to the Center for Recreation and Sports. The Adelphi chapter of Morgan's Message will be selling t-shirts for $20.
