Garden City, N.Y. - On Sunday, the No. 3 seed Adelphi University women's soccer team ended a five-year playoff win drought with a 2-1 result over sixth-seeded Bentley University in the quarterfinals of the 2022 NE10 Tournament at Motamed Field.
The Panthers, who improved to 11-4-2 overall, will get their re-match with No. 2 seed Franklin Pierce University in the semifinals on Thursday (Nov. 3) in Rindge, N.H.
While the two teams were almost even in shots in the first half,
Alexa Mihale accounted for the only shot that stood up through the first 45 minutes.
Mihale -- whose last goal came against Bentley back on Oct. 7 -- put home a
Dylann Trahey touch from the center of the 18 for the game's opening tally.
The woodwork robbed Adelphi of a couple more tallies throughout the day, but
Victoria Colatosti wasn't cheated in the second half.
As the clock ticked just below thirty minutes to go, Colatosti made a long run from midfield and tucked a left-footed shot inside the far post to expand the lead to 2-0.
Bentley (7-8-3) made it interesting when its leading scorer, Brooke Jones, cut the deficit in half with 5:41 left, but
Lydia Fraga Cordoba shut down a couple of key shots late to preserve the victory.
Cordoba and
Krista Aliscio took a half each in goal, and both keepers had three saves apiece. The Brown and Gold put up 23 total shots and 10 shots on goal in the contest -- their highest marks since Sept. 13.
A start time has yet to be announced for Thursday's NE10 Tournament semifinal between Adelphi and Franklin Pierce. Keep it tuned to
