Deleva Notches Hat-Trick as Field Hockey Beats Molloy, 6-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - It was a clean victory for the Adelphi University field hockey team as they blanked Molloy University, 6-0 on Thursday afternoon to extend their win streak to four games.

The Panthers (8-6, 7-2 NE10)  have now shutout their opponents a total of five times so far this season, only two away from tying their total from last year.

In the first five minutes of the contest, the Brown and Gold were the first to score from graduate student Kaylee Deleva who beat goalie Ally Saigh to slash it into the back of the cage. After the goal, both teams didn't manage a shot on goal for the remainder of the first quarter.

The Cats ended up scoring their second goal of the game early in the second period off a penalty corner that was brought in by freshman Lotte de Jong and scored by sophomore Ali Nagy and assisted from redshirt freshman Emiline Biggin. Molloy (1-11, 0-8 NE10) didn't register a shot of goal until the last minute of the first half by Lizzie Weiner that was saved by goalie Mirthe Karstens

Adelphi seemed to find a groove once the second half began as the team registered a total of seven shots on goal, resulting in two goals in the span from Deleva and graduate student Bianca Bachisin that was assisted by senior Giana McKeough to put the Panthers up by four.

As the last frame began, the Brown and Gold put two more into the back of the cage to extend their lead from a third goal by Deleva and one by Lee that was assisted by Bachisin.

It was Deleva's first hat-trick of the season and her first since Oct. 22 of last year on the road against SCSU.

The Brown and Gold look continue their performance on Saturday Oct. 29 at New Haven who the Cats defeated earlier this season in a 4-3 overtime thriller.
