Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team is now in full preparation mode for the NE10 Tournament, following Wednesday's 5-1 loss to No. 7 The College of Saint Rose in its 2022 regular-season finale at Motamed Field.
The Panthers (10-4-2, 8-2-2 NE10) not only celebrated their nine seniors, but went head-to-head with the defending NCAA Division II national runner-ups and trailed 2-1 at the half.
Adelphi had the momentum going into halftime. In the 36th minute,
Maria D'Angelo -- who had already scored twice off a header this season -- closed the gap with another strike from the air, at the back post.
The match was evenly contested in the first half, with both teams possessing the ball at an even 50-50 clip.
In the second half, Saint Rose took a slighter edge in possession and tacked on a few goals in the process. Two of the tallies came 1:51 apart, as the visitors began to pull away.
Graduate keeper
Krista Aliscio made three saves on the night for the Panthers -- which included a diving stop on a penalty in the 84th minute.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad will next welcome in Bentley University for an NE10 Tournament quarterfinal on Sunday (Oct. 30) at noon at Motamed Field.
