Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Riche, Lee Take Charge as Field Hockey Defeats AIC, 2-0

Garden City, N.Y - It was a great overall team performance by the Adelphi University field hockey program as they defeated American International College on Thursday evening by a score of 2-0.

The group earned its first shutout win since Sept. 27 when they played Southern Connecticut State, which resulted in a 9-0 victory. Freshman goalie Mirthe Karstens had no saves while in the cage throughout today's contest, as a result of strong defense in front of her that held the Yellow Jackets (2-10, 1-6 NE10) to just one on goal.

The Panthers (5-6, 4-2 NE10) struck within the first ten minutes of the game from an inside the circle shot by sophomore Jillian Riche, that was set up by sophomore Amanda Lee. At the 13:07 mark still in the first, junior Kylie Peregoy made an impeccable defensive save to stop the Golden Jackets from scoring.

Graduate student Kaylee Deleva had an opportunity to put one through but her shot was saved by Rylee Constant to keep the game at 1-0. As the first half came to an end, the Brown and Gold had outshot AIC 11-2, with five of those landing on target.

Once the second half began, Adelphi had four chances to score within the first five minutes but were unsuccessful from the saves Taylor Wildes put together. However, the Panthers didn't hold off on the brakes, as Lee struck one into the back of the cage off a penalty corner that was assisted by Bianca Bachisin and Deleva to extend the host lead to two.

The Panthers went on to stave off AIC to get back in the win column, after heading into the contest with back-to-back losses. The team will stay home for one more game this Saturday, Oct. 22 against Saint Michael's College as the program celebrates Senior Day prior to the start. Festivities are scheduled to begin at approximately 10:35 a.m.
