Make It Eight: Volleyball Defeats Alliance In Non-Conference Action

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi's 13 aces proved to be the difference maker in the non-conference meeting with Alliance University (formerly Nyack College) on Tuesday evening, as the team cruised to its eighth consecutive victory inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Despite 13 service aces, the Panthers (14-8) committed 12 service errors compared to Alliance's four all contest. Jaydin Nowak led the hosts with four service aces.

Lilyen McCarthy led the team with 10 kills as the team hit .340 as a group. Four different players from the visiting team finished with a negative hitting percentage, as they were even at zero with eight kills and eight errors as a team in the final set.

The home team jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage in the opening set, and although Alliance came within three, the Brown and Gold managed to string together a run of five points that featured two service aces from Jamaya Harris to extend the lead to eight. Reigning Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week Macarty McQueen added another pair of aces in a later stretch that saw Adelphi lead 21-9 en route to closing out a 25-12 first set decision.

Nowak bookmarked a six-point stretch with her own aces late in the second frame to help the Panthers pull away and ultimately lead 21-12.  Despite a four-point run from Alliance, the Panthers cashed in on a McCarthy strike to move ahead to 2-0 in the match.

Adelphi and Alliance traded points midway through the third but it was a kill from McQueen that sparked a four point stretch that was finished off with a Jamie Yonker ace that gave the home team a nine-point cushion en route to a 25-14 final.

The Panthers hit the road for their next three games starting with a Friday, Oct. 21 meeting with Saint Michael's College.
