Springfield, Mass. - A pair of first-half goals by
Madison Apicella and
Kayla Mushorn were the difference Tuesday night in a 2-1 win over NE10 rival American International College at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
The goals came 1:36 apart and put the Panthers (10-3-1, 8-1-1 NE10) ahead 2-0 at the half.
Apicella cashed in first at the 12-minute mark, when the freshman star -- after having her penalty stopped -- put back the uncontested rebound for the game's opening goal.
Only ninety seconds later, Mushorn -- in almost the same fashion as her goal against AIC last year -- drilled a 35-yard shot from the right flank that doubled Adelphi's lead.
AIC (5-6-3, 3-6-3 NE10) put
Krista Aliscio to work in the second half and while the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit in half, the Panthers staved off the comeback.
Aliscio made five saves in what was her second-highest single-game outing of 2022. She holds up among the Top 5 leaders in the NE10 with a 0.75 goals-against average.
The Panthers close out their three-game road trip Saturday (Oct. 22) in Syracuse, N.Y., with an 11 a.m. opening kickoff at Le Moyne College.
