Manchester, N.H. - Despite an unsettling loss earlier in the week, the No. 19 Adelphi University women's soccer team bounced back Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 blanking of Saint Anselm College in NE10 action at Melucci Field.
The Panthers (9-3-1, 7-1-1 NE10) had the Saint Anselm keeper working from the onset, but neither team was able to scratch across a goal in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Adelphi struck on its first shot of the period.
Nearly ten minutes in,
Carly Issing played a cross inside the 18-yard box for
Maria D'Angelo, who put a shot inside the far post off a volley.
As Saint Anselm (7-6-1, 3-6-1 NE10) went searching for the equalizer in the final minutes, D'Angelo got her brace in the 81st minute to put the game away. It was D'Angelo's first two-goal game of her Adelphi career.
With 9:05 to go and Adelphi still clinging to a 1-0 lead,
Alexa Mihale sent a diagonal towards the far post that D'Angelo headed past the reach of Saint Anselm keeper Kate Macaluso.
In her first game back between the pipes,
Krista Aliscio earned her third shutout of 2022 with a four-save outing. Three of those saves came in the second half after Adelphi took the lead.
The three-game road trip rolls on for the Panthers this Tuesday (Oct. 18) in Springfield, Mass. at NE10 rival American International College at 7 p.m.
