Waltham, Mass. - The Adelphi University field hockey team nearly came back against Northeast-10 conference opponent Bentley but was short of it by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.
The game started off in a scoreless battle from both sides before the 10:10 mark from a shot directly in front after a centering pass by Falcons' Gracie Moore by an assist from Lida Coco. It was the first shot on goal in the game.
Graduate student
Bianca Bachisin had four penalty corners in the second period - the Brown and Gold couldn't capitalize on the opportunities. Sophomore
Amanda Lee had the first shot on target for Adelphi in early parts of the second quarter. The Falcons increased their lead by a controlled lead pass from Coco and scored from six yards out.
The scoring opened up once the second half began with a penalty stroke that was off a deflected pass that graduate student
Kaylee Deleva took advantage of and led to a penalty stroke - which was scored by Bachisin to give the Panthers their first goal of the game.
As the fourth period began, Bentley (6-6, 4-3 NE10) had a chance to score off a penalty stroke and was successful to make it 3-1. The home team would tack on one more goal from a picked up loose ball that was dribbled and scored by Emily Crowell. Adelphi would respond back by two goals from Lee and Bachisin to cut the deficit to one.
It was too late for the Panthers - they were out shot on the cage 7-6 for the whole game.
Adelphi will host their next game on Wednesday (Oct. 19) against NE10 opponent American International at 4 p.m. on Motamed Field.
