Garden City, N.Y. - The No. 19 Adelphi University women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to NE10 rival Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday at Motamed Field.
In a battle between two teams jockeying for first place, the Ravens (10-2-1, 7-2 NE10) buried the game's only tally with 2:54 left in the game.
Even despite losing a player to a red card for the second-straight game, Adelphi (8-3-1, 6-1-1 NE10) held the opposition to two shots in the first half and kept possession at a near 50-50.
In the second half, Franklin Pierce -- with Adelphi playing shorthanded -- turned up the offensive intensity, to the tune of an 11-4 shot advantage.
Graduate keeper
Lydia Fraga Cordoba -- in her first start -- made seven of her eight total saves in the second half, until Franklin Pierce broke the scoreless tie on its final shot of the afternoon.
Junior defender
Kayla Mushorn nearly had Adelphi in the lead in the 65th minute. Mushorn beat a defender off a through ball and unleashed a shot towards the far post that Franklin Pierce keeper Emilie Fox kept out with her fingertips.
The Panthers now begin a three-game road trip this Saturday (Oct. 15) in Manchester, N.H. at Saint Anselm College at 12 p.m.
