Women's Tennis Drops First Conference Match of 2022

Flushing, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team lost its first NE10 match of the 2022-23 campaign, falling 6-1 to Southern New Hampshire University.

The Panthers (4-2, 3-1 NE10) and Penmen (5-0, 4-0 NE10) went toe-to-toe in a hard-fought match at the USTA National Tennis Center.

The first-time partners of Amanda Franstedt and Katarina Liedbeck took down the 2022 ITA East Region Women's Doubles Champions -- Magdalena Hubickova and Alexxa Etienne -- in impressive 6-3 fashion at the No. 1 flight to create a dead heat for the team doubles point.

A tiebreaker eventually decided it at No. 2 doubles, where Caterina Federici and Sanne Selmer Gilje fell just short in a 6-7 (5-7) decision.

In singles, Selmer Gilje -- fresh off her championship finish at ITA's -- lost in three sets to Hubickova at the top flight, 3-6, 6-3, 5-7.

Julia Kielan forced a 10-point tiebreak after dropping the first set at No. 5 singles. She prevailed 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 to remain undefeated in NE10 matches.

Carolina Chaves competed at No. 6 singles and forced a third-set tiebreaker, but lost by a close 4-6, 7-5, 9-11 scoreline.

Head Coach Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers are back in action Tuesday (Oct. 4), with a 3 p.m. first serve at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.
