Springfield, Mass. - On Sunday, the Adelphi University men's basketball team made it a season sweep of NE10 rival American International College with a 73-66 victory at Butova Gymnasium.
The win was Adelphi's (9-4, 4-2 NE10) third in a row and the Panthers will look to match their season-long winning streak this Tuesday (Jan. 11) at Stonehill College at 7:30 p.m.
Ronnie Silva scored 20 or more points for the third-straight game. He made five three-pointers and poured in a game-high-tying 21 points in the effort.
Adelphi went 1-for-9 from the field to open the contest and fell into an early 10-2 hole, before a 23-6 outburst put the visitors ahead by nine (25-16) with 8:21 left before halftime.
The Panthers sank their first four field-goal attempts to take the lead, led by a combination of three trifectas by
Jake Hlywiak and Silva.
Adelphi led 36-27 at the break and opened the second half on a 7-0 run that sent the Panthers to their largest lead of the game (43-37) at the 17:39 mark.
Although AIC (6-8, 3-4 NE10) managed to pull within a possession in the waning minutes, a 4-for-4 performance by
Andrew Delaney at the line kept the hosts at bay.
Hlywiak tied Silva with five threes for a 15-point day off the bench. Delaney went 7-for-8 at the line, and finished with a line of 12 points and nine rebounds.
Chris Coalmon added 11 points.
The Panthers shot a consistent 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the field, 39.5 percent (15-of-38) from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent (14-of-16) at the stripe.
